Inner Beauty Empowerment Project is a non-profit organization that aims for self-empowerment. Its focus is to counteract social and interpersonal pressures that deteriorate the growth and development of youth in urban communities. Our goal is to build self esteem, raise awareness, encourage assertion and refusal, develop problem solving skills and risk recognition. We work with youth both male and female ages 6- 18yrs providing them with curriculum based programs facilitated by trained youth advocates.

Youth today struggle with an array of social pressures and temptations, including risky options such as drugs, alcohol, smoking, and gang activities. They have many decisions to make and are constantly negotiating which road to take: the most popular choice or the safest choice? Self-worth is influenced by a complex set of factors that include but are not limited to gender and age. â€‹â€‹

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey 2017 (CDC):

  • 9.1% of female students experienced physical dating violence

  • 22.3% of female students had been bullied on school property

  • 45.7% of female students reported having had sexual intercourse

  • 35.6% of female students were currently sexually active

  • 41.1% of females reported feeling so sad or hopeless

  • 21.1% of females reported Considering suicide

  • 9.3% of females reported Attempting suicide

  • 59.9% of females reported trying to lose weight

  • 37.5% of females reported describing themselves as overweight

As these alarming rates continue to rise over the years, our youth have begun to lose their sense of self-worth. While overcoming the pressures of life, youth and young adults need encouragement and guidance. The way a person feels about themselves is a reflection of their behavior.
